Starbuck’s Street Campaign

Starbucks has always been a place where you can find the world’s best coffees. But in 1971, you would have had to travel all the way to the only store in Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market. A lot has changed since then, and Starbucks has become synonymous with not only great coffee, but a place where people can gather in a comfortable environment to lull away their time.

Starbucks history is as interesting as is its name, which comes from Herman Melville’s Moby Dick, a classic American novel about the 19th century whaling industry. Starbuck’s popularity and success actually dates back to the early 1980’s when Howard Schultz (Starbucks chairman, president and chief executive officer) visited the famous espresso bars in Milan, Italy. He recognized that their popularity and culture had potential in Seattle, and he was right! From the beginning, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company, not only celebrated coffee and the rich tradition, but it also brought a feeling of connection.Today, with more than 15,000 stores in 50 countries, Starbucks is the premier roaster and retailer of specialty coffee in the world. The first Starbucks to open in Canada was at the Seabus Skytrain Station in Vancouver on March 1, 1987. This humble store was Starbucks Coffee’s first international location and since then Canadians have been embracing the “Starbucks Experience” in more than 1,070 company-operated and licensed locations across Canada.

During the severe flooding that took place in Alberta this past year, Starbucks contributed $100,000 to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Floods relief efforts and collected customer donations in all Starbucks stores across the country.
